About Landscapes, Seascapes and Prints
Stephen’s landscape paintings highlight left brain fighting to gain control over the right. Some of his paintings are more representational by design – tighter compositions, recognizable images. Some border on the abstract. Living in the Northeast near Lake Ontario, he spends a lot of time on the water. Stormy skies, turbulent waves, then sun and that unmistakable scent after a rain all end up on his canvas. The more abstract landscapes focus these basic forms: Earth, Water, Air, Fire were used to explain the nature of all matter in ancient times and provide the inspiration for the works. He describes painting these works, “stream of consciousness, dancing around the fire”.
Each original oil or acrylic painting is completed analog, using traditional methods on gallery canvas or wood surfaces. They are then photographed at high resolution so they can be scaled for very large Giclée production on gallery canvas, paper and other architectural substrates such as metal, plastic and glass. Its a perfect and more affordable solution when large work is desired for upscale residential and commercial installations.
