About My Art

“I received a BS in Photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology when photography was chemical and pictures were developed by hand.  After spending hours in dark rooms, projecting light and processing film, its impossible to shake the concept of freezing time. I use a camera in all phases of my artwork, but its just a tool. Something better happens when I paint. When film was wiped out by the explosion of modern digital photography, the fine art paradigm changed forever and artists now have to push the envelope harder than ever for mind share. People are bombarded with spectacular images, its crazy hard now to get any attention. So to catch something raw, frozen in time like a photograph, but spin it so someone else is moved by something much deeper, that is what compels my work. ​Its a life long experiment, pushing both representational and abstract work, to see where I land.  Sometimes its torture, but the process of creating art, is addictive. And when I finally invoke a connection with another person, far deeper than what I can accomplish with a camera, there is nothing better in this world.”
