Mixed Media Giclées

A Giclée is a fine art print, created using specialized high resolution inkjet printers that “spray” medium on gallery canvas, fine art paper and other architectural substrates such as metal, plastic and glass. For instance, many wedding and portrait photography studios offer high quality prints on canvas. Stephen takes Giclée production to the next level by combining software and physical paint. Method 1: involves digitally “painting” over a high resolution subject photograph, using the same artistic skills as traditional work, and adding software enhancements to maximize print quality. Oil or acrylic paint is then applied by hand, directly on the finished Giclée surface, further enhancing the look and feel of the final work. The software inspired Giclée has been transformed into a one of a kind painting.

Method 2: Stephen also combines his original abstract work with figure work using a similar process. The goal is to create a truly original piece with the help of digital technology.

Method 3: This process combines the best of hand crafted painting, photography, digital software and print technology for a truly original work of art in the digital age. It starts with conventional sketching and hand painting the figure on canvas to ‘reasonable’ completion in order to capture the composition, style and analog brush work. The original is then photographed in high resolution. Software is used to achieve a higher degree of facial perfection and other client requested tweaks for limited edition, signed print production. The client receives the original oil or acrylic work on canvas, enhanced Giclee prints and digital files for NFT vaulting.
